Influenza:

Influenza (commonly referred to as “flu”) is a contagious viral infection that affects mainly the upper respiratory organs (nose, throat, bronchi and, occasionally, lungs).The virus is transmitted easily from person to person via respiratory droplets produced when people cough, sneeze or spit. Close contact (less than 1 meter) is usually needed to get infected. Influenza tends to spread rapidly in seasonal epidemics. Uncomplicated influenza signs and symptoms typically resolve after 3-7 days for the majority of people, although cough and malaise can persist for >2 weeks, especially in elderly people and those with chronic lung disease.

Common signs and symptoms of the flu include:

• Fever over 100.4 F (38 C)
• Aching muscles
• Chills and sweats
• Headache
• Dry, persistent cough
• Fatigue and weakness
• Nasal congestion
• Sore throat

Fever:

Fever, also known as pyrexia and febrile response, is defined as having a temperature above the normal range due to an increase in the body’s temperature. The average normal body temperature is 98.6° Fahrenheit (or 37° Celsius). When body’s temperature rises a few degrees above normal, it is a sign that body is fighting with infection.

Symptoms of a fever include:

• Elevated temperature
• Chills
• Aches
• Lack of energy
• Flushed face

Indications:

HR 5 is best for relieving influenza (also known as the flu), a contagious respiratory illness caused by flu viruses. HR 5 alleviates mild to severe illness and symptoms like fever or feeling feverish/chills, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches, fatigue (tiredness), vomiting and diarrhea.

Pharmacology:

HR 5 contains a synergistic formulation of the following herbs (Ephedra, chamomilla, Eucalyptus, Eupatorium perf, Millefolium and Gelsimium) that complement each other in a very potent way with the following actions: anticatarrhal, anti-inflammatory, immune enhancing and a tonic to upper respiratory mucosa. HR 5 reduces the mucus overproduction in the mucus membranes of the sinuses, resolves mucus damp, restores the mucosa and stops discharge. HR 5 contains Eucalyptus Glob which acts as an anti-septic, anti-inflammatory and significantly inhibits LPS (lipopolysaccharide)-induced inflammatory responses, also decreases the plasma levels of other inflammatory mediators such as NO3 -/NO2 -, ICAM-1, PGE2, and CINC-1. HR 5 contains Eupatorium perf in which alkyl amides have been shown to be immune enhancing causing increased phagocytic activity of granulocytes, which is part of the front line of immune defence.  Altogether it exerts potent anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, analgesic, antispasmodic activities implicating that this medicine is therapeutically useful for the treatment of inflammatory diseases like sepsis, catarrh, sneezing, catarrhal pharyngitis, catarrhal sore throat, tonsillitis, subacute rhinitis, nasopharyngeal catarrh, and influenza or flu symptoms.

Formula with Properties:

Antipyrinum 1D: inflamed nasal mucous membrane, frequent coryza, slight pain in forehead, disturbance of voice, suffocated chest.

Aconite Nap 4D: Mucous membrane dry, nose stopped up; dry or with but scanty watery coryza. Coldness and heat alternate. Cold waves pass through him. Thirst and restlessness.

Chamomilla 1D: sensitive, irritable, thirsty, hot, and numb. Sensitive to all smells. Coryza, with inability to sleep.

Eucalyptus Glob 1D: Influenza. Fevers of a relapsing character. Typhoid. Stuffed-up sensation in the nose. Chronic catarrhal, purulent and fetid discharge. Scarlet fever (protective and curative). Discharges show a tendency to foulness, high temperature, accelerated but not strong pulse.

Eupatorium perf 3D: Influenza, with great soreness of muscles and bones. Hoarseness and cough, with soreness in chest; must support it. Thirstlessness before fever. Burning pain. Knows chill is coming on because he cannot drink enough.

Ephedra vulg 1D: extreme sadness, hardness of the neck region, straining of whole body while moving neck, protruded eyes.

Gelsemium Semp 3D: Wants to be held, because he shakes so. Prostrated. Chill, without thirst, Sneezing, Watery, excoriating discharge, swelling of turbinates. Great prostration, and violent headache.

Millefolium 1D: Nosebleed (Erecht). Piercing pain from eyes to root of nose. Continued high temperature.

Sambucus Nigra 1D: Acts especially on the respiratory organs. Dry coryza of infants, snuffles, edematous swellings. Profuse sweat accompanies many affections.
