Trituration

Description

Homoeopathic dilutions are manufactured by a process, which is known as “dynamisation” or “potentisation”, during which a substance is diluted with alcohol or distilled water and then vigorously shaken against a firm surface during process called “succession”. Insoluble solids, like quartz and shell, are diluted by triturating them with lactose.

A trituration is a potency of a crude drug powder using an inert diluent powder, usually lactose or sucrose in a specific proportion by weight. Trituration is the process of potentization introduced by Samuel Hahnemann, by which the dynamic curative properties of the drug or substance are polished.

There are two main fundamental preparation scales for all medicinal homoeopathic substances. The first one is the decimal scale (containing 1/10 of the original substance) and the second one is the centesimal scale (containing 1/100 of the original substance).
